As this was originally posted in year 2012, still this method is effective in year 2014. I will update this upon the end of it. If someone find its discontinuation, please let me know for timely updating.

*************************

Some of foreign readers on my site asked me how to know someone blocked him/her on the KakaoTalk. Even KakaoTalk is serviced globally, knowhow on this service in Korea is not shared worldwidely, and I want to post some of them based on the request.

For the demonstration purpose, I choose Eddie, one of my friends on the Kakaotalk, and let him blocked me.

This is just done on Android, but iOS environment is just same as all functionalities are supported, too.

After Eddie blocked me, I opened 1:1 chatting with him.

If I put some message on this chatting, my message is not delivered to him because he blocked me. The "1" circled on the below image means that recipient of this chatting is one, and he doesn't read this message until now.

But this "1" doesn't mean he blocked me. He/she might turn off his smartphone temporarily or his/her smartphone is now broken for repairing.

Therefore we need to have the method to know whether he/she blocked me or not.

To do this, we can use group chatting method.

On the 1:1 chatting room, invite somebody else as shown in below. To invite somebody, touch the menu button and choose person as shown in below.

After inviting one person successfully, it is changed to the group chatting, and there are "3" members

at the initial time as shown in below. Refer to circled "3". This means total people in this group chatting room.

If you put any message on this group chatting room, total members on this chatting room is changed to "2"  from "3" as shown in below.  This means that first person, Eddie blocked me. Kakaotalk checks availability of members for group chatting, and delisted somebody if he/she blocked one.

As Kakaotalk doesn't support functionality to check out the blocking of somebody, this method is only practical at this time.

This is just summary of procedure on this method.

1. Open 1:1 chatting with suspicious friend who blocked me.

2. Put some message for test and wait whether he/she reads it.

3. Invite one more person with group chatting.

4. Put message and check total member counters on the group chatting. If counter is "2", then suspicious friend blocked me. If it keeps "3", he/she doesn't block me and he/she might have some problem in his/her smartphone.

If you have a question about change of blocking condition upon account unregistration, re-registration, refer to next posting.
